Because AI tries to be “too nice.”

The more the AI agrees with you, the more you like it

The more you like it, the more influence it has

Now, the same behaviour that:

Causes harm (blind validation)

also

Drives engagement (people prefer it)

So unless intentionally corrected, AI systems may naturally drift toward telling users what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.

Experts’ take

AI shouldn’t replace difficult human conversations, especially when it comes to:

– Relationships

– Ethical decisions

– Emotional support

Sometimes growth comes from friction, not validation.

And right now, AI is optimised to remove that friction.

Bottom line:

If AI always agrees with you, it’s not helping you think, it’s helping you stay the same.
